Before You Start

Important Words to Know

Sanitizer

A sanitizer keeps your water clean. It can be chlorine or bromine, but you can only use one at a time. Because hot tubs are small and warm, we recommend bromine.

Standby Mode

Standby Mode turns your hot tub off for a short time. Use this mode when you take out the basket or filter so debris doesn’t get pulled into the pipes.

Items You Will Need

• Water care products (we recommend SpaGuard or Beachcomber)
• Measuring cup
• Measuring spoons (Dollar Store works great)
• Scale (optional)

Step 1: Take Care of the Hot Tub Parts

Clean the Basket

The basket catches big pieces of debris.

1. Put your hot tub in Standby Mode
2. Pull the basket out
3. Empty it outside the hot tub
4. Make sure nothing is stuck inside

Clean the Filter

The filter catches small dirt and dust.

1. Pull the filter out
2. Rinse it well
   • Spring–Fall: use a garden hose
   • Winter: rinse it in your laundry tub
3. Put the filter back in
4. Put the basket back in
5. Take your hot tub off Standby Mode

Check the Floating Puck Dispenser

This dispenser holds chlorine or bromine pucks.
Refill it every week so your sanitizer stays strong.

Step 2: Add Your Water Care Products

The amount you add depends on the size of your hot tub. Check the back of each bottle for measurements and add the products in the following order.

Stain and Scale

• Helps stop rust and hard build‑up
• Add liquid to the centre of the hot tub
• Wait 15 minutes before the next step

Enzyme

• Helps your sanitizer fight bacteria
• Add liquid around the edge of the hot tub
• Wait 6 hours or overnight before the next step

Clarifier

• Helps your filter catch tiny dirt
• Add liquid around the edge of the hot tub
• Wait 15 minutes before the next step

Shock

• Refreshes your sanitizer so it works better
• Add powder to the centre of the hot tub
• Wait 15 minutes before the next step

Softener

• Makes the water feel soft on your skin
• Adds borates (does not remove calcium)
• Add powder to the centre of the hot tub

If You Use Combination Products

Some products mix several steps into one.
